Wood is a versatile and the only renewable construction material. Wooden structures have certain properties that make them durable and strong. Advances in building technology allow the use of wood in a wide range of non-residential, multi-story and long-span buildings. Construction codes have been evolving accordingly, to accommodate wood construction methods. Of course, a holistic approach is an essential prerequisite for also being able to offer long-term viable solutions.
Globally communities are now moving towards sustainable
construction with timber and wood-based products being
considered as important structural materials.
The introduction of mass timber products with excellent load carrying characteristics allows timber to be used in larger, more complex structures.
Rapid urbanisation, climate change and qualities such as lightness, strength and carbon neutrality are some of the other factors responsible for giving wood-based building materials a revival in the construction industry.
Our platform “Wood+ In Architecture And Design (WAD)”, now in its fourth edition aims at bringing the traditionalists and the modernists on a common platform to explore the versatility, durability and application of Wood+ In Architecture And Design. Sessions at the event will cover specific design and construction topics related to wood including mass-timber products, codes and compliance, fire resistance, structural design and layout and more. Leading speakers will highlight various projects and design strategies which have been implemented.
